Coded Skin (2004) is an audio-visual production that challenges perceived notions of identity and belonging. Coded Skin breaks with the ocular tradition of perception, in which skin is codified as a solid colour, specific and determinate. The model of representation codifies skin as a reflection of identity. For Coded Skin on the contrary, the skin becomes a surface of differentiation, a nonlinear mutation in an open-ended body. The skin is a surface of contact between colours under continual construction. These surfaces produce an ever-collective body emerging in a thousand combinations.

Coded Skin was commitioned by the Instituto Universitario Orientale di Napoli, Naples, Italy and screened in December 2003
